Hidden door handles can make the overall feel of the vehicle's side stronger, and the sense of technology will also be stronger. It cannot be denied that most vehicles that use hidden door handles have a strong sense of design on the side.
2. Wind resistance
The car is always enveloped by air during driving, and air is everywhere. The so-called "wind resistance" is the resistance generated by the friction between the car and the air during driving; The airflow will surround every corner of the vehicle, and the side is no exception, so protruding door handles will cause an increase in the drag coefficient. The use of hidden door handles can reduce wind resistance, as the doors become a complete flat surface; The use of hidden door handles can reduce wind resistance by about 0.003Cd, while a four door car can reduce it by 0.012Cd. 3. Scratches
The dents on ordinary exposed door handles are prone to scratches because people have nails. Many car owners will apply "rhinoceros leather", which is a transparent PVC/TPU protective sticker, to the door handle position to prevent scratches on the car paint at the dents. This position is scratched and even difficult to polish, so we have to use a towel dipped in polishing agent for hand polishing.

There are two types of hidden door handles: press type and electric control type. The press type requires manual pressing on one side and then gripping the entire handle. This type of door handle has a relatively low failure rate; Electric control is achieved by controlling the switch through an electric motor, which theoretically has a certain failure rate. However, ordinary door handles generally do not malfunction unless they collide, and there is no costly electronic control unit or electric motor, so the maintenance cost of hidden door handles is indeed higher, but the failure rate is also not high.
The second drawback is that the car door cannot be opened after freezing, as mentioned at the beginning. At the very least, ordinary door handles can still grip the handle and pull it hard, while hidden door handles have strength but are useless.
However, this disadvantage is also relatively speaking, not all cars are parked outdoors.
Taking the vehicle used by the author as an example, it uses an electrically controlled hidden door handle. The car is parked in the underground garage all year round, and there are also underground garages in frequently visited places; Occasionally driving outdoors, as long as it is not parked for a long time, the entire vehicle body will not freeze, so there is no need to worry about this issue. There are also many vehicles that use ordinary door handles, including new energy vehicles, which also have the option of ordinary door handles. Is there a safety hazard with hidden door handles?
This is the most controversial point, as some car enthusiasts believe that hidden door handles pose a safety hazard, such as the inability to open from the outside in the event of a collision.
It can be said that any car enthusiast who has this concern has never used a hidden door handle. Whether it is a regular press type or an electronic pop-up type, both types of door handles can be opened and pulled out by holding down one corner! In fact, apart from differences in design, there is no difference in the emergency use of hidden door handles. If it is automatically unlocked after a collision, it can be opened. If it is not automatically unlocked, even ordinary door handles can only be opened by dismantling the car door.
